MORNINGWOOD AMPS' pricing and delivery is being affected by current market conditions. COVID-19 has caused several component suppliers to reduce operations or close entirely (Classictone Transformers, for instance) due the pandemic. Contact me with questions. Thank you for your patience.
I bought my first electric guitar at age 11 in 1967 and my first amplifier was a record player that my dad converted. His love of tinkering and electronics stayed with me and I have been in pursuit of better tone through better guitars and amps for over 50 years.
I love amps. I really LOVE amplifiers and would be the person with one guitar and 10 amps, instead of the other way around. I love my guitars, but they are useless without a great amp and the better amp you have, the better your sound. As I became able to afford better guitars (much better than my playing ability could justify) better amps became necessary. I'm also practical about it and would not spend the money on original '50's and "60's amps if there was a good alternative.
Original amps continue to grow in cost. To me, the reissues are lacking in tone, reliability and serviceability, mostly by the company's objective to get to a low cost point using inexpensive components. offshore labor and mass production processes. In between the original amps and reissues are the good clones.
My solution is to find quality components true to the original specifications, quality cabinets and hand-wire the circuits, providing a formula to give the amp the best chance at sounding and feeling like the original. My solution also includes minor improvements to known deficiencies that have been identified in the 50-60+ years since these amps were first introduced; no 2-prong power cords, no selenium rectifiers, no death caps, fewer carbon composition resistors, better grounding, quieter balanced filament wiring and generally better components.
I can build your amp 100% to the original design or include some improvements under-the-hood, it's all up to you! Always happy to discuss the content and available options.
Mission Statement – Help guitar players get the tone, feel, dynamics and character of amps from the golden era in a high-quality, cost-effective, attractive, reliable and serviceable package.
Warranty – My amps are warranted for 3 years to the original purchaser, other than speakers and tubes.. Contact me directly for details.
The Name: Yes, we had a little fun coming up with an original name and beer may have been involved, but the joking around stops when you hear the tone, see the meticulous quality and experience the personal customer service. I build these one at a time, with no constraints of time or funding. If it's not perfect, I back out and start over. Tone, quality, reliability!
This is a one person operation, building amps one at a time, working out of my home. This strategy allows me to keep 100% control over the quality of my products and keeps overhead (and sell prices) lower.

"The only amp man I'll use.."
Looking for someone to check out my Traynor foot switch. I found Mike Robbins. Not only did he work the foot switch and explain it proper workings, he went thru the Traynor amp with a fine tooth comb. Very knowledgeable, customer friendly. Also purchased a 59 Fender Bassman which I am VERY HAPPY with. GREAT SOUND...
I chose Mike to build me a Custom Tweed Pro 5E5-A circuit amp based on reviewing photos of his meticulous builds sight/sound unseen. After speaking with Mike, I knew he was the builder I wanted due to his attention to detail and professional attitude. Mike delivered an unbelievable amp to me and the build is spectacular with extreme quality components and impeccable workmanship. My steel guitarist who is a tube electronic, Fender amp genius is so impressed with Mike's work that he is going to have Mike build an amp for him. I highly recommend Mike to build an amplifier for you! Thank you Mike! The Note Ropers

I would recommend him (and his amps) for all of your vintage amplification needs.
Hi Mike,
I'm really enjoying your Morningwood 115 amp. It responds very well to my playing dynamics and touch, it's that kind of interaction with an amp that makes it so fun to play. And the various "mod" switches provide a lot of tonal variety.
It's a great amp, and working with you has been a real pleasure.
I am dedicated to the highest standards of quality and customer service.
